SOFIC 2018: Schmidt & Bender Sees Requirements from SOF

1-8×245 PM II Shortdot Dual CC sight supports SOF missions in urban environment

Weapon sight specialist Schmidt & Bender is promoting its latest line of rifle optical gunsights at the Special Operations Forces Industry Conference (SOFIC) in Tampa, Florida.

Speaking to MONCh at the event on 23 May, Head of Marketing for Police and Military Markets at the company, Dr. Jorg Hennemann described how the 1-8×245 PM II Shortdot Dual CC sight could be used to support special operations missions, particularly in the urban environment.

Already selected by the German Army to support H&K’s G28 designated marksman rifle (DMR), the sight is ideal for use in counter-terrorism and law enforcement operations, Hennemann confirmed to MONCh with an ability to provide rapid target acquisition for operators in close quarter battle scenarios through to longer range engagements out to, “several hundred metres.

The weapon sight measures 655g in weight and 29.3cm in length, with a main tube diameter of 30mm, Hennemann confirmed. Providing magnification from 1X through to 8X, operators benefit from a red dot sight which retains the same size irrespective of magnification setting at any time.

Operators benefit from a 4.9m field of view at 100m with eye relief of 90mm. The sight is also available in black, Pantone 7504M and RAL 8000, company literature confirmed.

Additional reticle designs are currently under design by Schmidt & Bender, Hennemann added.

We are seeing requirements from the special operations forces community as well as the German Army and we are looking at developments arising out of the SOFIC event and potential application for other programmes,” he explained. “There is no programme at the moment but we are looking.”

Also promoted at the event was the company’s suite of multi-functional turrets for elevation and windage, allowing operators to switch between locking mode, MTC and non-MTC modes with a window indicator.
