I/ITSEC 2018: SATB – BISim

Simulation and Training Bosses (SATB) Series Selected Industrial Views

On the occasion of I/ITSEC 2018, MILITARY TECHNOLOGY publishes its sixth Annual Simulation and Training Bosses (SATB) Series that conveys the thoughts and messages of the world’s defence simulation and training leaders, according to the question: “With the need for multi domain LVC training being paramount, what new innovations does your company provide?”

Bohemia Interactive Simulations (BISim) provides a comprehensive, cutting-edge technology portfolio for multi-domain LVC training. Our product line encompasses desktop training, simulation host, image generation, terrain editing and management, artificial intelligence and development tools, all integrated with each other. This leads to superior workflow, robustness, and significant savings in both integrator costs and time-to-deliver as well as reduced programme delivery risks.

Earlier this year, BISim released VBS Blue IG, our high-performance, CIGI-compliant, 3D whole-earth image generator. VBS Blue IG supports the full spectrum of land, sea, and air use cases for combined arms and individual training. It is already in use for simulation projects ranging from JTAC, VR dismounted soldier training, gunnery, VR/AR part-task training, full-motion driver simulation, and flight training devices across the land, sea and air domains.

The underlying technology, VBS Blue, is a highly advanced, scene generation technology that has been built to be incredibly flexible in ingesting any conceivable terrain data type and thus allowing hyper-fast terrain generation and access to all types of open source and proprietary existing data formats. This is a key innovation that helps facilitate more flexible multi-domain LVC training.

A major effort to extend the capabilities of multi-domain LVC training is the US Army’s Synthetic Training Environment (STE) initiative, which aims to bring together virtual, constructive and gaming training environments into a single unified architecture. We’re introducing a product suite to support the US Army STE initiative with cloud-enabled technology that delivers training to the point of need. The new VBS Blue engine underpins VBS STE, a comprehensive and extendable solution offering first-person interaction with the virtual battlespace, mission editing, AI behaviours at multiple levels of command, terrain editing and AAR capabilities. VBS Blue IG is part of the suite for complex multichannel or demanding VR integrations. The STE World Server provides a geospatial data server providing efficient networked access to various data sources for rendering applications.

With simulation in the Cloud, militaries can move train larger groups of personnel in virtual scenarios populated with thousands of AI to more realistically represent the challenges of modern combat.

To get the best overview of everything, MONCh brings together key developments from the show. With I/ITSEC 2018 showcasing the future of innovation across the training & simulation sector, MONCh brings you hourly news, articles, and buzz from the show floor via our news team in one place so that you will not miss anything during the show.
