Safran ARRIEL 2H Achieves EASA Type Certification

12,000 Variants Logged 50 Million Flight Hours

In late April Safran announced that its ARRIEL 2H engine – selected in 2015 to power the AC312E helicopter developed by AVIC Harbin Aircraft Industry Group, which had its maiden flight in July 2016 – has been awarded EASA type certification.

One of the most powerful variants of the ARRIEL family, the 2H has a take-off power rating of 986shp and delivers better reliability, power and performance during demanding missions, according to the company. The best-selling engine in its class, the ARRIEL family now powers over 40 different helicopter types and is available with power outputs between 650-1,000shp, offering great flexibility and reliability in operations. Over 12,000 units have been delivered and have amassed a total of more than 50 million flight hours: an ARRIEL-powered helicopter takes off somewhere in the world every 15 seconds.

Type certification is an important milestone for the ARRIEL engine programme. It emphasises that the ARRIEL remains a very robust and high-performance engine solution for new rotorcraft. We now look forward to the next steps in the development of the AC312E,” commented Safran Helicopter Engines VICE President for Light Helicopter Engines, Nicolas Billecocq.
