FLIR Introduces SABER-NIR Illuminator

High-power, near-infrared (NIR) illumination for use with night vision and image intensified (I2) imagers

At AUSA 2018, FLIR Systems showcased it new SABER-NIR illuminator, which is being properly launched at SHOT Show 2019. SABER-NIR provides high-power, near-infrared (NIR) illumination for use with night vision and image intensified (I2) imagers. The vertical-cavity surface-emitting (VCSEL) array laser source provides unsurpassed beam uniformity for what the company calls the, “ultimate capability in feature resolution.”

Small and lightweight at 320g with batteries, measuring 4.59×2.5×1.57in, the unit can be rifle-mounted or handheld. SABER-NIR features 50mW of NIR illumination, variable beam divergence to match any application, speckle-free, extremely uniform beam profile, 860nm wavelength for use with all night vision goggles and I2 tools, minimises SWaP (see above), self-contained battery and controls, remote tapeswitch option for fire button and azimuth and elevation adjustments.

The optical output power is selectable, up to 500mW, and the beam divergence is adjustable, 2-8 degrees, with laser safety class 3B and 1, 2, 5hZ pulse modes. Its operational temperature ranges from -30° to 70°C and its storage temperature from -40° to 85° Celsius.

We’re very aware how technology is evolving and how soldier lethality is increasing,” says Adam DeAngelis, Director of Marketing (Government and Defense), FLIR. “That is why we are at the cutting edge of bringing international Special Forces solutions thy need.”
