Saab Selects Polish Shipbuilder for Swedish SIGINT Vessel

Nauta Shipyard Will Construct Platform

Saab announced on 26 April that it has selected the Nauta shipyard in Gdynia, Poland, as constructor of the platform for the Swedish Navy’s dedicated signals intelligence (SIGINT) vessel, for which Saab announced it had won a SEK730 million (US$83 million) contract earlier this month.

Nauta, part of Polska Grupa Zbrojeniowa (PGZ), the biggest Polish defence company, will build, launch and test the platfom at Gdynia, which will then be sailed to Saab’s Karlskrona facility to be fitted with SIGINT equipment and for sea trials and acceptance. The contract results from a Memorandum of Understanding signed between Saab and PGZ in October last year.

I am very pleased how we have turned the initial intentions in the MoU into a tangible business with PGZ. Special Purpose Ships of this kind require both high availability and reliability. In Nauta we have found a partner who can contribute in delivering a modern solution to our customer,“ Gunnar Wieslander, head of Saab‘s Kockums business area, commented.
