Mobile Short Range Air Defence System Meets Evolving Threats
Saab has introduced a new vehicle-borne air-defence system in response, it says, to evolving threats, particularly the increased prevalence of hostile UAVs.
The MSHORAD [Mobile SHOrt Range Air Defence] system marries Saab’s Giraffe 1X radar with the RBS 70 NG remote weapon station and an in-house C2 network, all packaged aboard a wheeled vehicle. The company says the system can provide situational awareness at up to 75km, while the Giraffe’s Drone Tracker functionality enhances its capability against slow and small targets.
“With the evolved threats, such as the expansion of military UAVs, it’s a great milestone to have a fully working system ready to be offered to our customers,” said Mats-Olof Rydberg, the company’s head of marketing for missile systems. “The combination of our first-class range and altitude coverage of the Mobile Firing Unit, together with the small size and multi-role capabilities of Giraffe 1X makes our MSHORAD solution the most modern and state-of-the-art solution out there.”
