Saab Wins Camouflage Systems Order from Canadian Army

Deliveries of Multispectral Camouflage Systems Will Take Place This Year

Saab has won an order from the Canadian Army to produce multispectral camouflage systems, the company announced on 3 April. Deliveries against the order will take place over the course of 2019.

The order includes a customer-specific woodland variant of the Ultra-Lightweight Camouflage Screen (UCLAS) developed by Saab and represents finalisation of a long-term contract signed in 2013.

This order will provide the Canadian Army with the most advanced camouflage system in the world, which brings true multispectral protection against detection by hostile threats to the end user”, observed Head of Saab Canada, Simon Carroll. Saab’s advanced camouflage technology solutions are in service in more than 50 countries. Through its Saab Barracuda unit in Gamleby, Sweden, the group offers a unique package of camouflage and force protection solutions developed specifically to limit an enemy’s ability to detect and engage friendly forces. A variety of configurations are available to protect camps, vehicles and individual soldiers or weapon systems in a wide variety of terrains and environments.

In late March MONCh was invited to visit Gamleby to see and discuss at first hand the challenges that need to be confronted and Saab’s innovative solution development. That story will appear here – and in the pages of Military Technology – in the near future.
