Saab to Deliver Next-Gen Anti-Ship Missile to Sweden

SEK3.2 Billion Development and Production Contract

The Swedish Defence Materiel Administration (FMV) has awarded Saab a SEK3.2 billion (US$357 million) contract for development and production of the next generation anti-ship missile system for the Swedish forces. Deliveries are scheduled to take place between 2017-2026.

The system is to feature air- and ship-launched variants and is intended to equip the GRIPEN E combat aircraft and the VISBY-class corvettes. The missile, based on the proven abilities of the RBS15, jointly produced by Saab and Diehl Defence, has an improved combat range, an upgraded target seeker and a lower mass compared with its predecessor. It can also engage a wide spectrum of maritime and land targets, has an all-weather capability and a new design enabling future growth potential.

These next generation missiles will provide the Swedish Air Force and the Royal Swedish Navy with greatly improved capabilities, compared to other missiles on the market. They will have the capability to engage any target, in all conditions,” Håkan Buskhe, President and CEO of Saab, commented.
