Finland Orders €9 Million in Virtual Simulators
The Logistics Command of the Finnish Defence Forces (FDF) has signed a contract with Saab for deliveries of virtual simulators valued at approx. €9 million, with first deliveries before year end.
Part of the FDF Training 2020 programme, the simulators will be in full-scale use for marksmanship and basic combat training in 2021. The purpose is to deliver qualified training to Finnish soldiers in a safe and environmentally friendly indoor environment. The simulators will incorporate models of the weapons used in Finland and a virtual environment that provides the basis for analysis after training. Saab will also support and maintain the system for three years. The company has provided the FDF with its KASI live simulation system since 2006.
“This order marks a big breakthrough for our newly-developed Ground Combat Indoor Trainer (GC IDT). Finland will get a virtual training system that provides both width and depth, from basic training to advanced scenarios,“ commented Head of Saab‘s Training & Simulation business unit, Åsa Thegström.
