Rubb Buildings Wins UK MoD Single-Source Contract

Strengthens Existing Relationship and Paves Way for Future Support

Rubb Buildings, headquartered in northeast England, announced on 21 January it has received a two-year sole source contract from the UK Ministry of Defence (MoD).

The new contract will see Rubb continue to provide military shelters, repairs, refurbishments, spare parts, training, post-design services (PDS) and support for infrastructure which can be deployed in the field. The single-source contract is potentially worth £9.5m and could be extended for an additional year.

The work helps sustain employment for 51 employees, including five military dedicated operatives. Key suppliers include Niko Ltd, Hydro, Anixter Fasteners and local suppliers Airowsafe, Birtley Galvanizing, Rotational Engineering, SMW and Elite Powder Coatings.

Rubb UK is a great example of innovative and expert British engineering that provides strong investment in the North East and contributes to UK Defence. This contract demonstrates the MoD’s commitment to industry throughout the four corners of the UK and I welcome the continued supply of this crucial defence equipment,” commented Defence Minister Stuart Andrew.

Working with the MoD is a long-standing relationship that we have built up over many years [….] Winning this new contract is a testament to all the staff here, who are dedicated to helping meet the needs of the defence sector and deliver Urgent Operational Requirements,” added Rubb Buildings’ Managing Director, Ian Hindmoor.

Providing innovative defence structures and hangars, the company has been a long-standing supplier to the British armed forces since 1979, when the Royal Air Force tasked the company to supply military buildings for the Red Arrows aerobatic display team. MoD continues to benefit from Rubb’s expertise in rapid deployable hangar solutions, which have been used to house and protect operations-ready fighter jets and carry out essential maintenance on CHINOOK helicopters.

The hangars have been invaluable to UK, Canadian and US forces deployed on operations across the globe. Rubb continues to provide the armed forces with long-term assets and is exploring the potential of cutting-edge cooling techniques and structural fabric technology suitable for supporting the UK’s future aircraft.

Rubb has recently fulfilled a five-year, single source contract with the MoD, with a value of £6.86 million, which ran until October 2018. The new contract strengthens the existing relationship and ensures that Rubb will be able to continue to provide vital equipment for the type of activity being carried out by the MoD, at any given time.
