The Swiss One Stop Cyber Shop

RUAG Cyber Training Academy

Last week MONS Gear Box was able to test the RUAG Cyber Training Academy (CTA) in Thun, Switzerland, one of the world’s most modern and high-performance cyber training centres, providing first class learning environments to up to five customers a month. Training can also be arranged on-site with a traveling classroom.

In RUAG Defence’s CTA, the company facilitates a learning experience tailor-made to ones needs, and learning objectives and threat scenarios are being tailored carefully to the cyber maturity of participants. The customer gets to determine the pace and cost and thereby stay in control during the complete process, according to the company.

RUAG’s tailored training programmes teach participants how to make the right decisions in critical situations and keep real risks to a minimum, making a company more secure and more able to withstand attacks. Courses are available for IT teams, executives and cross discipline groups.

In the simulation MONS Gear Box attended, we learned how to attack and how to disrupt a company to not seamlessly resume standard operations. This helped us to recognise pattern variation behind cyber-attacks and especially to assess the motivation of the aggressor.

Participants of RUAG’s CTA get to share experiences and lessons learned, interact and communicate inter-divisionally in a complex environment, thus, being capable to successively broaden their cyber security awareness. This is where RUAG helps, as the company will go out of its way to have its customers secure! Tailored training programmes teach customers how to make the right decisions in critical situations and keep real risks to a minimum, making companies more secure and better able to withstand attacks.

CTA is based on CyberBit, an Elbit Systems subsidiary, solutions while Clearswift’s solutions generally support the academy, which trains individuals to deal with increasingly sophisticated threats to cyber assets. In 2017, RUAG acquired the British cyber security company Clearswift, which has more than 2,300 customers in more than 70 countries. Clearswift is expected to bring in more than £23 million in annual revenues thanks to the efforts of its 140 employees this year, according to RUAG.

Securing sensitive and critical digital assets in a continuously changing landscape is RUAG’s mission. The RUAG professional services team consists of cyber security specialists with a wide range of competencies to help participants in the RUAG CTA design, implement and manage the most cost effective solutions to mitigate cyber risks.

So, how secure are you?

RUAG built up its facilities to provide training in the RUAG Cyber Training Academy (CTA), which according to the company is not only Switzerland’s largest cyber training centre, but it has now advanced into one of the world’s most sophisticated.
