RTTEC Series: Streamlight

Selected Industrial Views with Allen Lance, Director International Business Development, Streamlight, Inc.

On the occasion of SHOT Show 2017, MILITARY TECHNOLOGY publishes the Second Annual Rugged Tactical Tools for Extreme Conditions (RTTEC) Series that conveys the thoughts and messages of the world’s tactical equipment leaders, according to the question: “As soldiers and Special Forces operators expect their gear to be 100% reliable, how do you step up to offer extremely durable, rugged gear to keep operations running?”

Streamlight provides a broad array of portable lighting, weapon lights and tactical strobes for the military user. Products range from rechargeable handheld lights; to versatile, weapon-mounted lights that can be quickly attached to a handgun or rifle; to programmable, variable intensity personal lights designed for covert and/or search-and-rescue settings.

We manufacture high-quality, cost-effective solutions for the operator. We also can “missionise” products to perform above ANSI or other MIL-STD testing levels, allowing our products to perform in sub-zero temperatures, be submerged in water for hours, or withstand the rapid, successive recoil jolts of belt-fed machine guns to remain on target.

Streamlight products offer a wide variety of features to help keep operations running in virtually any situation. The TLR-1 HL, for example, delivers 800 lumens, and is designed for a variety of manoeuvres, such as clearing a dark room or searching alleys or other locations under low-light conditions. It mounts directly to all MIL-STD-1913 (Picatinny) rails and handguns with Glock-style rails, and offers highly accurate sight repeatability when remounting. Like many of our weapon-mounted lights and hand-held lights, it is fabricated from rugged 6000 series machined aluminium with an anodised finish for the ultimate in durability. It is IPX7 rated for waterproof operation to 1 meter for 30 minutes.

The hands-free Sidewinder Compact II, an ultra-compact tactical light that delivers multiple functions from four LED light colours, intensity levels and strobe, can operate from a single CR123 lithium, AA Alkaline or AA Lithium battery, giving users the flexibility to use the most readily available or preferred battery source. This versatile light can also be mounted on any combat helmet via direct attachment, rail system or by using the NVG bracket. With O-ring and gasket-sealed openings, the torch features an IPX7 rated design and is waterproof to 1 meter for 30 minutes. It meets MIL-STD-810F, Method 512.4 guidelines for waterproof operation.

Featuring a narrow footprint and a telescoping extension pole, the Portable Scene Light can be used almost anywhere by first responders and other professionals for scene lighting purposes. Ideal for lighting large scale scenes, as well as for examining small, narrow spaces, the light can be used for up to 18 hours without having to recharge the battery. Constructed from high-impact thermoplastic housing, the Portable Scene Light offers weatherproof construction. It features an IP67 design for dust-tight and waterproof operation to 1 one meter for 30 minutes, and is engineered to resist 40 MPH winds continuous in all directions with its head fully extended.

As lighting technology evolves, Streamlight will continue to work with military operators to develop even more effective new lighting tools that are also rugged and durable. At the same time, our engineering teams are constantly evaluating each emerging requirement that affects our military end users.
