Annual SHOT Show Rugged Tactical Tools for Extreme Conditions: Meggitt Training Systems

RTTEC Selected Industrial Views

On the occasion of SHOT Show 2019, MILITARY TECHNOLOGY published the third Annual Rugged Tactical Tools for Extreme Conditions (RTTEC) Series that conveys the thoughts and messages of the world’s tactical equipment leaders, according to the question: “How is your company (through your products/solutions) able to protect/help the Special Forces/Law Enforcement Operator?” For printed version, please pick up a magazine  at the show.  Here’s Meggitt Training Systems response:

Meggitt Training Systems, a division of Meggitt PLC, is the leading integrated live-fire and simulation weapons training system for defence forces, law enforcement agencies and commercial shooting range owners around the world. It occupies a unique position in the market through the merger of 90-year-old Caswell International with Firearms Training Systems (FATS) Inc., originally founded in 1984. Combined as Meggitt Training Systems for more than a decade now, special operations forces and law enforcement departments can fulfil all live-fire, simulation and hybrid training needs through one supplier.

On the live-fire side, Meggitt’s robust offerings include the XWT GEN4 wireless target carrier which builds on the industry’s first wireless, 360-degree turning system with a new lithium ion battery for enhanced performance, as well as enhanced protection to minimise damage. The XWT ProImage projected target system revolutionises image and video targets for indoor shooting ranges through interactive games, digital videos and images that a shooter can upload onto white paper or cardboard targets. In addition, Meggitt’s experts provide turnkey range design solutions from the research and bid process through construction, equipage and long-term maintenance.

FATS military simulators are the system of record for the US Army, USMC, US Army National Guard, UK MoD, Australia Defence Force, Canadian DoND, Singapore Armed Forces, Singapore Police Coast Guard, Italian MoD, Hellenic MoD, New Zealand Defence Force, Belgian Army and other customers worldwide. The FATS 100P portable system, designed for law enforcement and defence organisations that require virtual weapons training on the go, has been strongly received by the market. On the upper end of the market, Meggitt is meeting the need for greater immersion through the three-screen, 180-degree FATS 180 and five-screen, 300-degree FATS 300. All are designed to work with the company’s line of BlueFire wireless weapons, which replicate live-fire weapons in form, fit and function, as well as live weapons temporarily converted for simulator use with a BlueRail device, recently introduced to the market by Meggitt.

Increasingly, the ideal solution for special operations and law enforcement customers is an integrated training facility. Examples include Meggitt Training Systems’ SHOTT House and Road Range. The former stands for Shoot House Optimized for Tactical Training and provides warfighters the opportunity to practice securing a structure using live weapons or Meggitt’s virtual ones. Video scenarios projected on the walls create a flexible, virtual shoot house for rapid customisation based on the mission. The Road Range is a ballistically secure mobile trailer, fully equipped to produce a three-position, state-of-the-art, live-fire range for training anywhere. As with the SHOTT House, the Road Range can be equipped with a FATS virtual training system to provide a comprehensive solution for marksmanship, sustainment and judgmental training, including force escalation and de-escalation.

Whether virtual, live-fire or integrated, Meggitt’s solutions benefit from research and development driven by a workforce with first-hand military and law enforcement experience. Their expertise results in products that designed to meet the most demanding standards for accuracy and realism in a variety of demanding operating environments.
