Roketsan UMTAS/OMTAS Testing Completed

ATGM Family Now Applicable to Multiple Platforms

Roketsan has finalised the testing campaigns for its long-range and medium-range anti-tank guided missile (ATGM) systems, designated UMTAS and OMTAS respectively. Both systems were designed and developed with the specific requirements of the Turkish armed forces in mind and have been developed from the outset as a product family.

With completion of the qualification phase, the laser-guided variant of UMTAS (L-UMTAS) entered Turkish service in 2016, while the qualification of the variant equipped with an imaging infrared (IIR) seeker was completed in the first quarter of 2017. L-UMTAS systems were used with success during the EFES 2018 exercise and first serial production deliveries will be made in mid-2019. The integration of UMTAS, L-UMTAS and OMTAS into both vehicular and naval vessel platforms continues.

The point is: anti-tank missiles are not just about eliminating the ever-developing armour technologies; now you need to be capable of meeting all kinds of emerging threats. In addition to their anti-tank capabilities, which are their main mission, UMTAS and OMTAS were designed to be effective against any other ground or surface threats. We will be witnessing such implementations frequently in near future,” explained Roketsan President and CEO, Selçuk Yasar.
