IDEF 2017: Roketsan 122mm Family Rockets

Innovations Continue to Enhance capability

The 122mm artillery rockets designed and produced by Roketsan provide mass fire power and wide coverage of high-payoff targets at ranges up to 40km with perfect accuracy and minimal dispersion. They provide timely, accurate and effective fire support to manoeuvre forces.

The TR-122 rocket has an HE warhead and the TRB-122 an HE-fragmentation warhead containing over 5.500 steel balls. They are produced in two different configurations: delivered in wooden storage and transportation boxes for steel tube launching; or stored, transported and used in a sealed pod, which brings the advantages of requiring no maintenance, no specialised workforce during storage and loading and protection against humidity, corrosion, shock and vibration throughout their shelf life.

Roketsan continues to bring innovative practices to its artillery rockets for the benefit of its Turkish and foreign customers, most recently, for example, adding guidance capability. The TIGER (TRG-300) missile, delivered to the Turkish armed forces last year following a five-year design, development and qualification phase, has a range of 30-120km and is inertially guided. The TRG-122 brings the capabilities of the TIGER system to 122mm calibre rockets, effectively providing area coverage at ranges of 16-35 kilometres.

Adapting its innovative approach to the system level, Roketsan has developed systems capable of launching different types of rockets and missiles from the same platform. The T-107/122 Multi-Purpose and Multi-Barrel Rocket Launcher (MBRL) System is capable of firing 3×20 rounds of 107mm rockets or 1×20 round of 122mm rockets/missiles, using sealed and thermally insulated rocket pods. The T-122/300 MBRL, can be equipped with a 122mm 2×20 tube or 300mm 2×2 tubes in sealed pods. Both systems are capable of automatically identifying the type of pod placed in their multi-purpose cradles, which offer minimum reloading time and maximum protection against adverse environmental conditions for the missiles and rockets placed on them. Variants configured on 6×6 or 8×8 tactical wheeled vehicles include all the required subsystems for engagement and launch.

Roketsan has also facilitated the development of a tailor-made multiple cradle launcher for a foreign customer. “We are continuing to add new capabilities to our systems, which we have developed with the aim of covering the critical targets under fire quickly and effectively, by amending them in line with technological developments and our customers’ requirements. ROKETSAN does not only offer high performance, cost-effective and reliable solutions but also continues to support its customers at all times, without imposing any export or use restrictions on its products,” Selçuk Yasar, President and CEO of Roketsan, explained.
