Ship-Specific HF Broadband Antenna Design a Key Selection Criterion
Rohde & Schwarz (R&S) has received a contract from Thales Canada for secure communications systems for two new Joint Support Ships (JSS) for the Royal Canadian Navy (RCN), the company announced on 23 June.
The JSS – currently in construction at Seaspan Vancouver Shipyards under the National Shipbuilding Strategy – are purpose-built, multi-role vessels that will provide an important auxiliary function to the RCN. In addition to replenishment at sea, the vessels will support training and naval manoeuvres as well as humanitarian operations, ensuring Canada’s continued safety and security at home and abroad.
Key factors leading to selection of an R&S solution include the company’s ability to engineer ship-specific HF broadband antenna designs and its reputation for reliability and high performance, as proven on the many vessels carrying its external communications systems, including the German Navy’s auxiliary support ships.
Rohde & Schwarz Canada delivers full systems solutions and provides engineering and through-life support to Canadian companies.
