Rohde & Schwarz Test and Measurement Systems on Display at EuMCE

Broad Range of Applications Moving Testing from Field to Lab

Rohde & Schwarz will present test and measurement (T&M) solutions for a wide variety of applications at the newly-created European Microwave Conference in Central Europe (EuMCE) in Prague, 13-15 May. Modelled on European Microwave Week (EuMW) and organised by the European Microwave Association, EuMCE is intended to serve the microwave community in Central Europe.
Rohde & Schwarz T&M solutions on display during the event will include:

Wideband Radar Testing
As radar and electronic warfare (EW) technologies advance and become increasingly complex, T&M systems must keep pace. At EuMCE, Rohde & Schwarz will present the R&S Pulse Sequencer software, used in combination with the SMW200A vector signal generator to deliver wideband radar signals, like pulses and chirps, for generating test scenarios. Featuring ultra-long playtime through powerful real-time sequencing and supporting direction-finding scenarios consisting of moving emitters and a receiver, the solution follows the general trend of implementing more test sessions in the lab than in expensive field tests.

Also on display will be the company’s FSW signal and spectrum analyser. Featuring a wide range of measurement applications and an internal analysis bandwidth of up to 2 GHz, it analyses wideband signals from radar systems and jammers without an external digitiser. The analysis bandwidth can be extended up to 5 GHz using an R&S RTO oscilloscope as an external digitiser to analyse ultra-wide signals, such as those used by automotive radars. The FSW’s real-time capabilities allow users to reliably detect extremely short sporadic interference in the nanosecond range, even in close proximity to powerful carriers – in a bandwidth up to 800 MHz.

Compact Solution for Shielded mmWave Device Testing
With the age of 5G technology approaching, production and conformance testing has to tackle new technical challenges, such as measuring new frequencies in the mmWave band. To meet these requirements, Rohde & Schwarz has developed several class-leading solutions, among them the new R&S CMQ200, a 19in shielding chamber. In combination with the ZNA43 vector network analyser, the CMQ200 allows compact mmWave device testing in a shielded environment.

The ZNA family represents the new high-end series of the Rohde & Schwarz vector network analyser portfolio. Excellent RF performance is combined with a wide range of software features and a unique hardware architecture with four independent sources and two local oscillators. The new ZNA features an innovative, DUT-centric operating concept and comes with two independent touchscreens, making it the world’s first purely touch-operated vector network analyser. It is a powerful, easy-to-operate test platform for characterising active and passive devices.

Multiport VNA with High Measurement Speed
The testing of multiport devices often requires high measurement speeds and a high dynamic range. The true multiport architecture of the R&S ZNBT vector network analyser with two independent receivers per test port is the basis for fast and accurate measurement results. This is the first multiport vector network analyser to offer up to 24 integrated test ports and support measurements up to 40 GHz.

Thermal Effects Diagnostics on 5G Devices
Thermal effects diagnostics on designs under test is crucial when analysing chipset and user equipment performance, since device heating or cooling can affect the RF components and consequently the radiation pattern of the antennas. Rohde & Schwarz will demonstrate a setup for extreme temperature tests. The R&S ATS-TEMP climate option can be integrated into the company’s ATS1000 antenna test system and allows testing in a temperature range from –40 °C to +85 °C, making it possible for the first time to perform combined RF OTA and climatic testing in a single chamber.
