SOVERON Family SDR Will Provide Secure Communications Capabilities
Following the recent approval of the Luftwaffe’s replacement of 38 Tranche 1 EUROFIGHTERs by newbuild Tranche 4 aircraft under Project QUADRIGA, Rohde & Schwarz is preparing to support the programme with highly secure software-defined radios (SDR) from its SOVERON family, the Munich-based company announced on 1 December.
All EUROFIGHTER TYPHOON aircraft currently with the company’s highly secure communications technology in the form of two V-/UHF transceivers. These use sophisticated communications methods that were standardised throughout NATO, including the digital and fast frequency-hopping algorithm Second Generation of Anti-Jam Tactical UHF Radio for NATO (SATURN) algorithm, as well as embedded NATO cryptology. This solution has already been SECAN and BSI certified to allow secure communications up to NATO SECRET level.
