Rockwell Collins to Support 1,910 CHINOOKS

Five Year Follow-on Contract for CAAS

Rockwell Collins has won a follow-on contract for its Common Avionics Architecture System (CAAS), under which the company will provide service and support for cockpit equipment for the US Army’s CH-47F CHINOOK fleet. The contract envisions up to 1,910 units being involved by 2021.

CAAS was initially rolled out for the C-47F fleet in 2007, using common, replaceable processing elements and incorporating a commercial standards-based open systems architecture. Coupled with the experience of the technicians at the company’s Atlanta service centre, the system offers users efficient, cost-effective service and repair, thus shrinking turnaround time and maximising operational utility of the aircraft. Originally developed for the Special Operations Forces’ MH-47 and MH-60 helicopter fleets, CAAS has also been selected for the MH-60T, MH-65E, VH-60N and CH-53K, as well as by CHINOOK operators in at least eight other countries.

Since its original installation, CAAS continues to enable Army aviation to safely perform highly demanding missions worldwide,” said Thierry Tosi, vice president and general manager, Service Solutions for Rockwell Collins. “With this service contract, we’re providing lifetime value to the US Army by sustaining and supporting these mission critical avionics. Supporting this contract keeps CH-47F helicopters flying so soldiers can accomplish their missions.”
