Advanced Communications and Situational Awareness Capability
Terma has been awarded a contract to supply 46 shipsets of its AAMS 3D-audio solution for the F-16s of the Royal Netherlands Air Force (RNLAF): 45 are destined for the single-seat F-16A and one for the two-seat F-16B. The RNLAF joins the Belgian and Danish Air Forces and the US Air National Guard/Air Force Reserve as users of the system, fielded and proven since 2009.
The advanced communications and situational awareness solution provides enhancement of the pilot’s situational awareness, survivability and workload reduction by presenting audio warnings/cues and radio messages in a full 360° spherical representation. This allows the pilot to receive the dynamically updated warning tone/cue from the true direction of the threat and spatially separates radio communication for increased speech intelligibility. The system also provides active noise reduction (ANR) and electrical noise reduction for reduced pilot stress and fatigue.
“The RNLAFhas a strong and long-standing partnership with Terma, encompassing the majority of our aircraft. In this framework, we are confident that the Defence Materiel Organisation and Terma are committed to provide the RNLAF’s F-16s with the new AAMS/ANR capability to increase the operational effectiveness and safety of the aircraft and pilot,” commented Air Cdre. Richard Laurijssen of the RNLAF.
