Five-year Contract with Two-year Option
Babcock has been awarded a five-year contract by the British Ministry of Defence (MoD) to supply hydraulics equipment for the Royal Navy’s (RN) surface vessels and submarines, the company announced on 28 February.
Leveraging a unique set of technology and engineering capabilities to maintain, repair and manage the complex systems and equipment, Babcock will ensure the RN’s policies and standards are maintained. The company’s bid was successful for both Submarine First Level Equipment and General Hydraulic Equipment.
The five-year contract, with a two-year option, will include newly manufactured equipment, spares supply, equipment repairs and the provision of ad-hoc technical services for on-going post-design activities. The work will be carried out by a team of technical Suitably Qualified and Experienced Personnel (SQEP), drawing on their dedicated hydraulic repairs and overhaul capability in the Combined Weapons and Equipment Workshop (CWEW) facility, which already undertakes a wide range of hydraulic work in support of both ship and submarine maintenance periods.
“To support the significant level of technical complexity associated with the hydraulic product range, we will also draw on technical support from our Warships and Submarine businesses, which have significant experience in commissioning equipment for similar contracts,” explained Babcock Defence Systems Technology Director, Mission Systems, Martin Laity.
