Riga Requires Radios

Latvia takes delivery of new Harris tactical radios

The Latvian Army will take delivery of new Harris tactical radios, following the signing of a contract in December 2017 worth $17 million for the supply of both transceivers and ancillaries. This latest contract follows a similar contract signed in 2016 worth $10 million which saw transceivers delivered last year, with deliveries of the December 2017 contract expected to commence by early 2019, according to reports.

There is no mention on which transceivers the Latvian Army may receive from Harris, although since the Latvian armed forces launched an overarching modernisation of their tactical communications in 19998, the army has taken delivery of the company’s Falcon-II and Falcon-III systems. The Falcon-II family includes high frequency (three megahertz/MHz to 30MHz) and very high frequency (30MHz to 300MHz) handheld, manpack and vehicular radios. Much like the Falcon-II series, the Falcon-III family includes handheld, manpack and vehicular radios, plus personal role radios. It is entirely possible that additional Falcon-II/III deliveries will be made to the country as a result of the December 2017 contract.
