Final stage of first submarine manufactured in Brazil
RIACHUELO (S-BR1), the first of four conventional SCORPENE-class submarines being built in the Submarine Development Programme (Prosub) for the Brazilian Navy (MB), begins the final stage of construction at the Itaguaí Naval Base.
RIACHUELO is being built via technology transfer from Naval Group (ex-DCNS). The contract also includes the construction of the first Brazilian nuclear propulsion submarine (SN-BR).
The water launch of RIACHUELO is scheduled for December 2018, while the other submarines are scheduled to be delivered in 2020 (S-BR2), 2021 (S-BR3) and 2022 (S-BR4). The SN-BR will be launched to the sea in 2027.
