Products include the Boxer MIV, Challenger 3 upgrade programme, unmanned systems and robotics, among others
Rheinmetall has announced it will present together with RBSL a very wide array of products at DSEI 2023 in London between 12 and 15 September, including the Boxer MIV, Challenger 3 upgrade programme, unmanned systems and robotics, digital battlefield, loitering ammo, air defence systems and others.
More in detail, the company will inform about their share in the British Army’s Mechanised Infantry Vehicle Programme and display the Combat Reconnaissance Vehicle (CRV), a variant of Boxer, together with a Skyranger Air Defence System Mission Module. Rheinmetall will also discuss with presents the results of the test firings of the L55A1 120mm smoothbore gun in the performance for the enhanced Challenger 3 Main Battle Tank.
Together with Mercedes-Benz and ACS Armoured Car Systems GmbH, Rheinmetall is also going to present the Caracal airmobile vehicle platform, a high-mobility family of 4×4 vehicles for light units such as airmobile formations and special operations forces, already selected by German and Dutch armed forces.
In London, the company will also showcase its Lynx KF41, the next-generation infantry fighting vehicle, armed with an MK30-2/ABM automatic cannon and a Main Sensor Slaved Armament (MSSA) weapon station, acquired by Hungary in October 2022. In August, Rheinmetall was included by US army in phases 3 and 4 of the Optionally Manned Fighting Vehicle (OMFV).
In Area Defence, Rheinmetall will inform about a new under development top-attack area defence weapon for an enhanced battlefield obstacle capability.
As for unmanned systems and robotics: for the first time, Rheinmetall present its LUNA NG, a cutting-edge multi-purpose Unmanned Aerial System (UAS), optimised for long-range tactical target acquisition of objects in real time and battle damage assessments, which will support Ukrainian forces and become Germany’s tactical UAS.
Rheinmetall will also be showing how various integrated unmanned air-supported reconnaissance systems can reinforce the sensor suites of vehicle platforms. Among them, there will be a Mission Master SP robotic vehicle, configured as a carrier platform for cable-less charging technology for unmanned systems, the larger Mission Master XT and mission pods for deploying small UAVs from combat vehicles for reconnaissance and target engagement missions. Also on show is Rheinmetall`s Joint Fire Surveillance Reconnaissance (JFSR) System VINGTAQS II.
On the loitering munition side, the company will showcase UVision’s Hero family of munitions, produced in collaboration with UVision. At DSEI, visitors will also be able to see an HX 8×8 with an automated load handling system. For air defence, a 35mm Revolver Gun Mk3 automatic cannon is mounted on the vehicle’s flatrack.
As for air defence, Rheinmetall will showcase a a mission module for an 8×8 Boxer air defence vehicle with a Skyranger 35 turret, as modular systems are aquiring importance in NATO forces.
Shifting to Force protection, Rheinmetall will present the StrikeShield module, a hybrid system for vehicles that combines active and passive protection technology.
On the digital realm, Rheinmetall will also reveal ways of lifting the “fog of war” through the interplay of sensors, effectors and advanced human-machine interfaces, and will showcase the latest configuration of its Gladius 2.0 soldier system, for manned and unmanned vehicles. Also a wide range of sensors will be exhibited at DSEI, such as Trailblazer, which is designed for hatches down driving in degraded and low light environments. On display there will also be Overview, a product for highly localised situation awareness, and the Acoustic Platform for Vehicles.
Lastly Rheinmetall will present weapon and ammunition systems at the new Group business unit Rheinmetall Expal Munitions as well as innovative sensor solutions.
