SurveilSPIRE System in Collaboration With DefSecIntel
Rheinmetall is supplying automated reconnaissance systems to Ukraine under a German government order. Delivery has already commenced, the company announced on 28 February.
Developed in conjunction with Estonian company DefSecIntel, the SurveilSPIRE solution consists of mobile surveillance towers with day and night-capable cameras, autopiloted mini drones and a control system. Transport vehicles are included in the scope of the order.
The SurveilSPIRE surveillance towers, manufactured by DefSecIntel, can be loaded onto trailers for rapid transport to the operational area. Assembly requires three personnel, and operation is fully automated. The system includes wireless links (4G and Starlink) for video transmission to a mobile command post. Solar panels enable sustained operation without power cables or a fuel source. The drones conduct patrols and mission-specific flights, enabling inspection of detected threats and allowing operators to initiate necessary countermeasures.
Rheinmetall is already taking part in several projects supporting Ukraine. On behalf of the German government, for example, Rheinmetall subsidiary Zeppelin Mobile Systeme GmbH is supplying a turnkey field hospital this year, and Ukraine is taking delivery of 26 brand new high-mobility HX swap-body trucks. Furthermore, Rheinmetall is a partner in several multilateral ‘Ringtausch’ transactions – a procedure developed by the German government whereby Germany’s neighbours and NATO partners transfer Soviet-era equipment to Ukraine, to help that nation repel the Russian invasion, in exchange for surplus Western-made systems.
