Four-Year Framework Contract for 40mm AGL Ammunition
In a contract worth millions that marks a further success for the South African subsidiary, Rheinmetall Denel Munition has secured a four-year framework contract to provide 40mm grenades to the Spanish armed forces. The Army and Navy both use the SB-40 LAG and Mk 19 automatic grenade launcher.
Covering 40x53mm HE and HE dual-purpose (HEDP) rounds as well as training rounds with and without tracer, a first call-off has already been made and deliveries will commence later this year. The HV round achieves a velocity of 240m/s and a range of 2,200m while the HEDP round also has a fragmentation effect but carries a shaped charge warhead capable of penetrating up to 50mm rolled homogenous armour (RHA).
The company’s portfolio for 40mm grenades includes both 40x46mm low velocity and 40x51mm medium velocity rounds for a wide variety of applications.
