20,000 Helmets to be Delivered
Rheinmetall and its strategic North American partner, Galvion, are to supply the Bundeswehr’s new combat helmet, the companies announced on 11 December.
The framework contract, confirmed last month, calls for delivery of 20,000 ‘Combat Helmet, Special Forces, Heavy,’ the first 5,000 of which have already been delivered. The contract runs to 2025 and includes an optional extension for up to two years.
The new combat helmets offer improved protection and are more comfortable to wear. This, coupled with their level-dependent hearing protection and night vision devices, significantly boost the combat effectiveness of troops deployed in infantry operations. They are intended for special operations and Ranger-like forces, among others, and their use in the NATO spearhead VJTF 2023 is also under consideration.
