RENK supports MARTE ARGE to strengthen European defense through joint tank development

RENK Group AG sees the foundation of MARTE ARGE as another important step toward strengthening European defense capabilities. The joint development program for the Main ARmoured Tank of Europe (MARTE) underscores the willingness and readiness of European industrial partners to work together shoulder to shoulder to provide state-of-the-art defense technologies for the armed forces.

Dr. Alexander Sagel, CEO of RENK Group AG, says: “MARTE is an important European research project that engenders urgently needed skills and has the potential to raise the European defense industry to a new performance level. At the same time, it is essential to consolidate the European defense industry. Only then can enhanced efficiency be achieved, competitiveness ensured, and the numerous different platforms brought to a common technological level.”

Sagel stresses that the current proliferation of vehicle platforms in Europe is resulting in significant efficiency losses: “Given the security challenges, especially the threat from Russia and rising defense spending as a result, increased consolidation of the industry is essential. Only then can joint standards and technologies be developed and implemented faster.”

Market availability is now the order of the day: The vehicle family of the Leopard 2 main battle tank and the HSWL 354 gear unit it uses provide a field-tested platform with the capability for technology transfer into future platforms. “Thanks to this consistent and mature product base we at Renk can ensure highly scalable production, durability, and minimum supply chain risks – and, at the same time, are driving modernization in terms of performance,” Sagel concludes.

Renk is currently in the field with the Leopard 2 main battle tank in 18 countries. It is thus the central partner for mobility solutions in the European defense industry, and, with MARTE, is also contributing to the joint development of the new main battle tank generation.
