$128 Million for Advanced Mobile Sensors
Raytheon announced on 27 February it has been awarded a four-year US Air Force (USAF) contract valued at up to $128 million to operate and maintain the COBRA KING radar on board the United States Naval Ship (USNS) HOWARD O. LORENZEN and the GRAY STAR radar on board the USNS INVINCIBLE.
The two shipboard radars are forward deployed in support of US Pacific Command and US Central Command. Raytheon personnel deploy aboard the ships to operate and maintain the radars and their subsystems. The company, which is the developer of the COBRA KING radar and has a 16-year history on the programme, also provides engineering and logistics support.
“Raytheon is sustaining and modernising the advanced sensor systems the Air Force depends on to succeed on today’s digital battlefield,” Todd Probert, Vice President of Mission Support and Modernisation at Raytheon Intelligence, Information and Services, said. “We will keep COBRA KING and GRAY STAR available 24 hours a day, 7 days a week, no matter where they are in the world.”
