USAF-led Programme Will Enhance GPS Reliability and Security
Raytheon has completed factory qualification testing of the Launch & Checkout Systems for the US Air Force Global Positioning System Next-Generation Operational Control System (GPS OCX), which will unleash dramatically increased performance and security of the GPS system for millions of military and civilian users worldwide.
Having tested OCX in a cyber-hardened environment, Raytheon will now proceed to delivery of the overall LCS to the customer this year, after which site acceptance testing will be conducted.
The GPS modernisation programme led by the USAF will yield new positioning, navigation and timing capabilities for users. Developed by Raytheon under contract to the USAF Space and Missile Systems Centre, GPS OCX is replacing the current GPS operational control system and will support the launch of the GPS III satellites. The new system will provide enhanced performance, the effective use of modern civil and military signals and secure information-sharing with unprecedented cyber protection.
