Raytheon Anschütz Introduces New WECDIS

Display and Information System Improves Naval Mission Effectiveness

Raytheon Anschütz, a Raytheon Technologies business headquartered in Kiel, Germany, has introduced a new electronic chart display and information system (ECDIS) specifically aimed at improving the mission effectiveness of naval vessels.

The Naval ECDIS NX is a modular WECDIS [warship ECDIS], an application used primarily for safe, efficient navigation and enhanced tactical awareness of naval surface ships and submarines. Based on a commercial solution, Naval ECDIS NX offers users additional military features as required. Features and chart options are individually configurable, from an ECDIS with certain additional mission functions to a full WECDIS according to NATO STANAG 4564 Ed. 3.

When deciding [in favour of] Naval ECDIS NX, our customers benefit from a proven, future-proof and fully type-approved ECDIS software as a basis, as a prerequisite for an easy and risk-free start-up,” commented Björn Schröder, Product Manager for WECDIS at Raytheon Anschütz.

Naval ECDIS NX enables naval and military features to be added as required by the individual customer, according to mission. Among the new overlays and features are:

  • Additional military layers (such as AML) and further chart support;
  • Navigational and tactical overlays, including sensors, effectors and military grid systems;
  • Navigation aids for special missions, including target intercept and search and rescue;
  • Waterspace management, including moving haven and disposition;
  • Antisubmarine warfare.

The modular approach with Naval ECDIS NX ensures mission effectiveness, as it is designed to budget with customisable capability upgrades [solely through] software configuration at any time,” Schröder added. “It has never been easier for customers to add WECDIS capabilities and use them in their navigation systems.”

The Naval ECDIS NX software application’s modern, clearly structured user interface is designed to support intuitive interaction patterns and to make it easy to operate and to train. It continuously maintains and adapts to new International Maritime Organization standards, to offer customers ongoing compliance with ECDIS standards, supported by advanced configuration management. It has been made available with commercial and military off-the-shelf type-approved hardware, including a chart table, to support fleetwide standardisation efforts of any operating navy.

Naval ECDIS NX is seamlessly integrated into Raytheon Anschütz’s Warship Integrated Navigation and Bridge System, which is state-of-the-art for NATO warships. If required, Naval ECDIS NX can be scaled to a purely commercial application.
