Saab enhance their air C2 offerings

Saab has announced that Avioniq’s Rattlesnake software is now available for installation on the company’s 9Air/9Airborne series of air operations Command and Control (C2) systems. A written statement supplied to MONS by Saab stated that the Rattlesnake “is software solution derived from a kinematic model of missile performance that uses a threat library of air to air missiles.” The software fuses its missile performance models with the track data of aircraft on the C2 system’s Recognised Air Picture (RAP), derived by federating the radar pictures generated by ground-based and airborne surveillance radars of a locale.

The software then assesses the Probability of Kill (PK) being performed against friendly combat aircraft in the area covered by the RAP from air-to-air missiles launched by any and all hostile aircraft which have been detected. The statement continued that the software “discards non-lethal scenarios and only represents those that pose an assessed threat to allied aircraft, providing a real time, visual representation to the air controller.” Moreover, the software continues to examine the missile’s PK in real time, maintaining “a continuous, dynamic assessment of each possible scenario within its model to account for the dynamic nature of air warfare.” Ultimately, such an approach allows the fighter controller “to assess and advise each allied platform as to how best to balance and minimise the threat from enemy air to air missiles.”
