Quantum Imaging SWIR Cameras for Raytheon

On-chip Processing Adds Critical New Capability

Quantum Imaging has received a $13.5 million (€12.5 million) order from Raytheon Space and Airborne Systems for high-definition short-wave infrared (SWIR) cameras, the company announced on 25 March.

With its unique, on-chip image processing, Quantum’s SWIR camera, based on an innovative sensor designed and manufactured by SemiConductor Devices (SCD), Quantum’s parent company, and implementing a 1280×1024, 10μm imager format, adds a critical new capability to a large number of tactical imaging applications.

“Our strategy is to leverage SCD’s cutting-edge sensors to significantly improve the performance of imaging and night vision systems used for both military and commercial applications,” explained Mark Fydenkevez, President and CEO of both SCD USA and Quantum Imaging.

Raytheon will use the cameras to further enhance a family of products that provides detailed intelligence data from the visual and infrared spectrum, supporting US military, civilian and allied missions around the world.
