FMS Sale Approved by Defense Security Cooperation Agency
Qatar has made a request for four spare F117-PW-100 engines, quick engine change kits and associated platforms, trailers and support services for its fleet of eight C-17 GLOBEMASTER III aircraft. Estimated value of the sale is U$81 million – prime contractor will be Boeing.
In notifying Congress of approval for the potential sale on 7 December the US Defense Security Cooperation Agency noted “Qatar is a vital partner for political stability and economic progress in the Middle East (and) the proposed sale would enhance Qatar’s ability to operate and maintain its C-17s, supporting its capability to provide humanitarian aid in the Middle East and Africa region and support its troops in coalition operations.”
