New Cockpit and Avionics Planned
At the same time as flight testing is resumed on the prototype of the IA-58 PUCARÁ FÉNIX, in order to achieve type certification after the installation of new propellers, the Argentine Air Force has also decided to move on with plans to modernise the cockpit and avionics.
Current plans call for installation of the same cockpit equipment for the pilot as already integrated into the PAMPA III, while the rear cockpit will receive relevant screens and controls for the ISR pod. Concurrently, the Air Force is in discussions with INVAP regarding development of a new pod, based on the POA aerial observation pod originally developed by FixView but also integrating a sideways-looking airborne radar (SLAR).
The certification process for the PUCARÁ FÉNIX is currently expected to be completed next year. The plan is then to upgrade an additional 3-4 aircraft, to include the new Pratt & Whitney engines.
