Modular, Flexible and Fully Digitised Design
EID, a Cohort plc company, has been awarded an €8.5 million contract by the Portuguese Army to supply its Dismounted Soldier System for infantry units. The award followed an international competitive selection process, and deliveries will commence next year and be completed by 2026.
The company’s Dismounted Soldier Communications System comprises a full range of advanced voice and data communications equipment, including personal and handheld radios, data terminals, and a data and energy integration subsystem. Additionally, it can be integrated with other external sensors carried by the soldier.
Fully digital, the system’s modular design enables operational flexibility and can be adapted to the varied situations and mission requirements of all infantry echelons, enabling transmission of voice, data and video. It will also be fully compatible with other communications equipment already in Portuguese Army service.
Through the data terminal, the system enables real-time exchange of data (including battlefield messages and real-time positioning data) between individual dismounts, the section vehicle and other relevant networks vital for maintaining situational awareness.
This is an important component of the Portuguese Army’s modernisation process, with the objective of better serving an Army that constantly strives to be credible, modern and attractive, with high levels of readiness and competence.
“This integrated communications solution will significantly enhance soldiers’ situational awareness and provide greater command and control for army units, thus improving their performance and protection. Equipping the Portuguese Army with this state-of-the-art infantry system is a major milestone,” explained EID Managing Director, Frederico Lemos.
