ScanEagle over the Philippines

Insitu was awarded a contract for six ScanEagle for the Philippines Armed Forces

The Pentagon announced that Insitu Inc. had been awarded $9,975,624 for the procurement of six ScanEagle unmanned aircraft systems (UAS). This follows from a presolicitation published by the Government of the Philippines in June 2017, and includes spares, training, site activation, technical services, and data for the government of the Philippines.

ScanEagle delivers persistent imagery on land or at sea. It has a flight endurance of 24 hours and above, can reach 5,944m in altitude and has a maximum horizontal speed of 41.2m/second. The Pentagon announcement and the Government of the Philippines presolicitation do not indicate the sensor and data options that will be fitted on the six UAS, but Insitu does offer a turret with a wide range of sensors (EO, EO900 – EO camera and EO telescope, MWIR, Dual Imager – EO and MWIR), video datalink and C2 datalink.

According to local sources, the ScanEagle is part of US efforts to support Philippines counter-terrorism capabilities, and will dramatically enhance the Philippines Armed Forces’ surveillance of its vast mountainous and at times difficult to reach areas.

Work for the ScanEagle is expected to be completed in September 2019.
