MSPO 2018: WZL-2 Showcases PGZ-19 UAV

PGZ-19 tactical, short-range UAV designed as reconnaissance drone for land forces

During MSPO2018 in Kielce, Poland, WZL-2 (Wojskowe Zaklady Lotnicze) in Bydgoszcz presented a range of its indigenously designed tactical unmanned aerial vehicles (UAV), including the PGZ-19R unmanned drone.

The company, which is owned by PGZ, is one of the most renowned and experienced in Poland. It is involved in several modernisation programmes, including Su-22, MiG-29, C-130 and F-16 aircraft projects. At the same time, the company designs UAVs, which are offered both to the Polish Armed Forces and foreign customers.

One such unmanned solution is the PGZ-19 tactical, short-range UAV that is designed as a reconnaissance vehicle for land forces. It was designed in cooperation with PIT-Radwar. While WZL-2 is responsible for a vehicle and serves as a project leader and integrator, PIT-Radwar’s duties include works on a Ground Control Station. The first variant, known as E-310, was presented during MSPO 2015.

According to designers, PGZ-19 can transmit high-quality data in real-time and can operate in significant distances from a launching point. The PGZ-19 has a hybrid engine and is launched by a pneumatic take-off system. Its maximum take-off weight is between 80 and 90kg with a payload of 20 kilogrammes.

The vehicle is equipped with an optoelectronic warhead with daytime camera, infra-red camera, laser-target indicator and a laser-range finder, as well as with SAR radar with GDMI. Its cruising speed is between 120 and 180km/h and its operational range is up to 150 kilometres. It can stay airborne for up to 12 hours. Its declared service ceiling is 5,000 metres. PGZ-19’s wingspan is 5.25 metres, while its length is 3.1 metres. According to WZL-2, two operators can prepare PGZ-19 for a mission in 30 minutes.
