PBS Velka Bites brings 1,500N of thrust
Czech company PBS Velka Bites is a designer and producer of a range of small turbojet engines producing up to 1,500N of thrust. Their engines are suitable for UAVs, target drones and cruise missiles. The company developed this line of business after specialising in the provision of auxiliary power units (APUs), for which it has been a manufacturer since the early 1970s, supplying them to jet trainers, light combat aircraft and helicopter programmes.
PBS engines are characterised by excellent power-to-weight ratios, compact design, reliable operation, low fuel and oil consumption together with being able to restart at high altitude and at high speed. Standing out among their competitors in these respects, PBS has delivered more than 800 units to customers worldwide.
PBS TJ80
This year, PBS is launching two new turbojet engines.
The PBS TJ80 has a mixed fuel/oil system, which saves both weight and production costs. This configuration also allows the engine to start and to operate in any position.

PBS TJ150
Another turbojet engine, the PBS TJ150, will be ready at the end of this year. Weighing just 19.6 kg and with a diameter of 272 mm, the engine offers 1,500 N thrust. Both engines feature an integrated starter-generator and both are controlled through a full-authority digital engine control (FADEC) system. These engines can operate at a speed of up to 0.9 M, ambient temperatures of -50 °C to +45 °C and altitudes of up to 9,000 metres. Both have a capacity for ground and in-flight restart at up to 6,000 m, with a maximum speed of 0.6 Mach.
PBS TJ150
- Max thrust 1,500N 337lbf
- 28V power output 600W
- Outer diameter 272mm 10.7in
- Weight 19.6kg 43.2lbs
Engine Operation
- Max altitude 9,000m 29,528ft
- Max speed 0.9M

The newly developed TJ150 is based on the company’s most commercially successful model, the TJ100 turbojet engine (1,300 N thrust). It is a single-shaft engine consisting of a starter generator integrated into the radial compressor impeller, an axial turbine, an autonomous oil system and a digital control system.
PBS Turboprop and Turboshaft Engines
PBS is also a manufacturer of turboprop and turboshaft engines designed for medium altitude long endurance UAVs, unmanned helicopters and small experimental aircraft. The PBS TP100 and TS100 develop maximum power of 180 kW.
