Paris Air Show: Raytheon STORMBREAKER Completes Operational Testing

New Weapon Hits Moving Targets in Adverse Weather

Raytheon announced at the Paris Air Show this week that its STORMBREAKER weapon system has completed all operational test drops, moving it closer to an initial operating capability. The early stages of integration work are already underway, the company stated.

STROMBREAKER’s tri-mode seeker uses imaging infra-red and millimetre-wave radar in normal operating mode, to give pilots the capability to engage and destroy moving targets from standoff ranges, even in adverse weather conditions. It can also use a semi-active laser guidance mode.

All operating modes of STORMBREAKER have been rigorously tested in operationally relevant scenarios against real-world targets in environments that are similar to actual battlefield conditions,” commented Raytheon Air Warfare Systems Vice President, Kim Ernzen. “With its tri-mode seeker and datalink, this smart weapon will close a capability gap and make adverse weather irrelevant.”
