SUMADIJA MLRS and ALEKSANDAR 155mm Self-Propelled Gun
At Partner 2017 in Belgrade this week, Serbian manufacturer Yugoimport has unveiled two new weapon systems: The SUMADIJA multiple launch rocket system (described by the company as a “correctable artillery rocket”) and the ALEKSANDAR 155mm self-propelled gun (SPG).
SUMADIJA is based on a Tatra 8×8 truck (the same chassis that carries the NORA B-52 155mm self-propelled howitzer) and is a modular system, capable of mounting and firing two types of artillery rocket. At ranges up to 285km, the JERINA-1 guided rocket (with INS/GPS trajectory correction) delivers a 200kg composite HE/blast fragmentation warhead. The system can mount two or four modules, each carrying two rockets. Alternatively, the 70km range JERINA-2 267mm calibre unguided rocket delivers a 110kg HE warhead: two six-rocket launch pods can be mounted.
The MGS-25 ALEKSANDAR is a fully automated 155mm SPG that displays “high levels of autonomy,” according to the company. Both systems attracted considerable interest at the Belgrade event.
