Deliveries Due to Start in 2018
On 28 March, Leonardo announced it has received an order from the Pakistani government for an undisclosed number of AW139 twin engine helicopters. Part of the nation’s ongoing helicopter fleet renewal, the additional aircraft are to be used in the utility, search and rescue and emergency medical services roles. Deliveries are expected to commence before the end of 2018.
Several AW139s are already in Pakistani government service in relief and transport roles. The aircraft is ideally suited to the local operational environment, delivering ‘hot and high’ performance unmatched by any other helicopter in its class, according to the company. Leonardo has to date sold over 1,000 examples of the twin engine intermediate helicopter to over operators in over 70 nations: almost 900 aircraft are currently in service.
