Sig Sauer exhibit new handgun at Frankfurt event.
Sig Sauer has shared with MONS that it expects decisions to be made regarding potential procurements of its new P-320RX 9mm handgun by several special forces in the United States, Germany and elsewhere in Europe over the next 24 months.
The weapon, which includes a factory installed, detachable red dot sight is dubbed as ‘optical ready’ by the firm, meaning that the user can, if they wish, remove the Sig Sauer red dot sight with which the weapon is supplied and add their own optics.
The company continued that, as of earlier this year, it has commenced deliveries of the weapon to several law enforcement organisations in the United States and also commenced supplies of the weapon to the US Army from autumn 2017. The weapon has been selected as part of an indefinite quantity/indefinite supply contract to equip the force with a new handgun.
Moreover, sources beyond both the GPEC exhibition and the company have confirmed to the author that the firm has delivered ten MCX Rattler 5.56mm/7.62mm Blackout assault rifles to the US Special Operations Command (USSOCOM) for evaluation. The USSOCOM has an existential requirement for a concealed carry weapon, and the MCX Rattler comes equipped with a foldable butt stock to this end. The USSOCOM is currently evaluating the MCX Rattler 7.62mm variant, the sources continued.
