Operational ARROW-3 Interceptors Now in Service

Long-Range Exo-atmospheric Ballistic Missile Engagement Capability

On 18 January, the Israel Missile Defence Organisation (IMDO), a division of the MoD, transferred ARROW-3 interceptors to the Israeli Air Force’s Aerial Defence Array, ushering in a new era in the ARROW weapon system.

Expanding the ballistic missile engagement envelope and providing better coverage against high-altitude, exo-atmospheric threats, ARROW-3 supplements existing ARROW-2 interceptors, significantly reducing the potential for ballistic missiles to impact Israeli soil.

ARROW-3 is a joint Israeli-US programme, co-managed by IMDO and the US Missile Defense Agency. Israel Aerospace Industry’s (IAI) MLM division is prime on the programme, with Boeing as the major subcontractor. Elbit Systems developed the Battle Management Centre and IAI/ELTA the radar detection array, which between them provide significant and powerful new capability for the Aerial Defence Array.
