ODU System’s Solutions for Dismounted Troops

Connectors Optimised for Easy Handling in Demanding Applications

Increasingly in modern military (and security) operations, sensors, databases, individual weapons and entire units are connected to form a system. Instead of operating individual platforms, the interaction of vehicles, unmanned assets and emergency services becomes the focus. The exchange of large amounts of data is also possible. This networking enables faster action, increases protection and mobility. An improved information base provides a basis for decision-making, especially in crisis situations. A decisive advantage in use.

Military operations are therefore exhibiting changed requirements. Modern digital technology is no longer sufficient. AI plays an essential role and increasingly complex data are becoming more and more important. Situational awareness depends on AI, and from monitoring vital systems of the emergency services to transmission of real data for vehicles and corresponding alarms, mobile networking has become indispensable. In the future, the number of platforms and sensors in use will continue to increase, adapted to the operational needs, from soldiers in action to command personnel in the operations centre.

Driven by continuous innovation and international procurement, the demand for rugged military connectors is increasing and the market for military equipment growing dramatically. While it used to be sufficient to equip group leaders with radios, entire companies are now equipped with intelligent hubs. Light and portable security and communication technology, computer systems or vision and surveillance systems have become almost ubiquitous.

ODU offers its AMC connectors for use in these portable nodes, for transmitting data, signals or currents. Various peripheral devices such as optronics, battery systems and communication devices, can thus be intelligently networked with each other, creating cross-platform system compatibility. The basic requirements for demanding applications are that the connectors be robust and optimized for rugged operations – but robust does not necessarily mean heavy. ODU attached great importance to the motto “high speed, low drag,” constantly endeavouring to achieve space-saving and lightweight design from the development stage – resulting in weight savings of up to 70%. This relieves burden on the soldiers, enabling them to conduct tasks more persistently or to carry more supplies with them in the field.

Information flow and power supply is assured in ODU AMC connectors by various MIL standards such as MIL-STD-810G, thus meeting the requirements of 38999 or NATO STANAG 4695, including requirements for temperature extremes or strong vibrations. All connectors can be customized to meet specific mission or operational requirements.

The sheer number of connections required by an individual operator continue to proliferate at an alarming rate. (ODU)
