Will Bring French Inventory to +/- 200 Units
The French Army ordered about 50 more NX70 drones from NOVADEM at the end of last year, the third order in two years, the Aix-en-Provence-based company announced on 11 February.
Since the initial order in 2018, some 150 NX70s have been delivered which, with associated equipment and spares, brings total order value to date to over €6 million. The newest order brings enhanced night vision capabilities to the fore for the drone. Based on operator feedback, a thermal imaging camera has been added with double the existing resolution; this ‘640’ camera will equip half the new systems to be delivered, adding to fleet versatility. Delivery is planned for the first half of 2021, with initial deliveries starting in April.
The new order provides additional impetus for the company in 2021. It recently announced the first successful cueing by an NX70 of targets for the MBDA MMP missile, as part of the Project LynkEUs programme funded by the EU to the tune of €6.5 million.
