MNOK266 for National Air Defence System
Kongsberg Defence & Aerospace has been awarded a contract by the Norwegian Materiel Defence Agency, valued at MNOK266 (€26 million) for upgrade of the National Advanced Surface-to-Air Missile System (NASAMS), the company announced on 12 February.
The upgrade of the system’s SENTINEL radar Identification Friend or Foe (IFF) functionality ensures it operates in accordance with future NATO standards, further improving the already secure identification of friendly aircraft.
“Norway continues to upgrade their ground-based air defence capability by implementing the latest available technology. The modernisation will enhance NATO commonality and reinforce the NASAMS capability,” says Kjetil Reiten Myhra, Executive VP of Integrated Defence Systems at Kongsberg.
NASAMS is renowned for its distributed architecture and flexible network solution capable of solving a wide variety of air defence missions.
