Supports Integration into EUCOM IAMD Plan
Northrop Grumman is to provide its Forward Area Air Defense Command and Control (FAAD C2) systems to Estonia, Lithuania and Latvia under a $14.3 million (€12.7 million) US Army contract, the company announced on 14 December. The contract will support upgrading air defence and C-UAS capabilities, and provides a framework for integration into US European Command’s (EUCOM) Integrated Air and Missile Defense (IAMD) Plan to more fully support NATO air defence system architecture.
“FAAD C2’s short-range air defense command and control system has a record of high performance protecting forward operating bases overseas and major US cities with C-UAS capabilities,” explained Christine Harbison, VP/GM, Combat Systems and Mission Readiness at Northrop Grumman. “Replacing obsolete systems with FAAD C2 will enable our allies to participate fully in modern NATO air defenses.”
FAAD C2 is a battle-proven C2 system, deployed in several operational theatres for short-range air defence, C-UAS and counter-rocket, artillery and mortar (C-RAM) missions. Its open, multi-domain, system-of-systems architecture enables easy integration with available sensors, effectors and warning systems to launch rapid, real-time defence against short-range and manoeuvring threats. It has been selected as the interim C2 system for small UAV C-UAS procurements for DoD. In the future, FAAD C2 will integrate into the IAMD Battle Command System (IBCS), the US Army’s contribution to DoD’s Joint All-Domain Command and Control (JADC2) initiative.
