Malaysia Orders Nexter 105LG

Army to Acquire 18 units by 2020

Nexter announced at DSA 2018 in Kuala Lumpur on 19 April that the Malaysian army has ordered 18 105LG1 artillery systems, scheduled for delivery between November 2019 and February 2020.

The 105LG1 is a 105mm gun designed for intervention and rapid reaction forces. With a maximum range of 17km, it can be towed by a light vehicle, transported by a helicopter such as a PUMA or Bell 212, or parachuted by a tactical transport aircraft such as a C130 HERCULES. This extreme mobility, thanks to its low weight (1,650kg), allows the gun to be deployed in any operational theatre from jungle to mountains, no matter how complex. A crew of five is sufficient to bring it in to battery in as little as 30s and to maintain an initial rate of fire of at least 12 rounds per minute.

Combat proven and qualified by the French army, the 105LG1 currently equips the armies of Singapore, Thailand, Indonesia, Belgium, Canada and Colombia. This fresh acquisition by Malaysia confirms the excellent performance, ease of use and robustness of this gun.

Nexter has had a close partnership with ADS, one of Malaysia’s leading defence companies, for eight years and this contract marks a further step in their cooperation: 105LG1 systems will be assembled locally at the ADS facilities near Gemas, Negeri Sembilan. ADS is confident that this initiative will improve self-reliance and the army’s artillery capabilities. The package will also include long-range ERG3 ammunition and the BACARA Ballistic Computer.
