Highlights CAESAR and the NERVA Robot Family
Nexter Group will focus attention at Defense & Security 2019 in Bangkok, 18-21 November, on the full spectrum of its capabilities and expertise: from armoured vehicles to artillery systems and from strategic subsystems such as weapons and their associated munitions to robotic and embedded systems.
Nexter is fully engaged in meeting the challenges of the French Army’s SCORPION programme, through development of the new VBMR-GRIFFON, EBRC-JAGUAR, and VBMR-SERVAL armoured vehicles, renovation of the LECLERC main battle tank fleet and anticipated incremental adjustments to the programme in the future.
The Group’s strong international presence features numerous recent export successes, such as the CAESAR 8×8 artillery system sold to the Royal Danish Army, the CaMo programme instituted with Belgium and the TITUS armoured vehicle acquired by the Czech Republic. The group continues to develop its commercial presence throughout the world: its order book showed 52% in export orders booked in 2018.
At the Bangkok exhibition this week, Nexter will showcase a number of specific systems with regional appeal and strategic value:
- Artillery and ammunition – in the spotlight will be the CAESAR 6×6 155mm/52 system, capable of 6 rounds per minute (rpm), with mobility that renders counter-battery fire ineffective. CAESAR conducted over 2,500 fire missions against Daesh recently as part of Task Force Wagram. The 105LG will also be featured – the lightest artillery system available, it can be deployed in under 30 seconds, can achieve 12 rpm and reach a maximum range of 17km. It has been sold to Belgium, Canada, Columbia, Indonesia, Malaysia, Singapore and Thailand, as well as having been qualified by the French Army;
- Support-oriented digital solutions – including the FINDMP mission planning table and the FINDART fire control system;
- Training solutions – including virtual and augmented reality (VR/AR) solutions for maintenance and support training. The Virtual Maintenance Training (VMT) allows maintenance teams to simulate a variety of maintenance scenarios on CAESAR, from the simplest to the most complex, from the most predictable to the most unlikely, all in a VR environment. The Mixed Reality Crew Trainer (MRCT) solution brings all the advantages of virtual reality (safety, customisation, scenario generation, control…), while providing an actual structure on which a 3D AR model of the CAESAR is placed. Trainees can thus interact fully with the vehicle and its components and systems, keeping the sense of touch and the notion of weight of a round, for example;
- Mini-robots – last but not least, the group’s robotics range will be represented by the NERVA mini-robots range, as well as a selection of payloads. Compact, robust and reliable, NERVA is the ideal tool for a wide range of missions, from reconnaissance to mine clearance. It allows high-risk missions to be carried out without exposing operators.
